The Verdict Is In

    Posted on 11/05/2008

"Why do you not know how to interpret the present time?" (Luke 12:5)

Well, the verdict is in. The people have spoken - just as they did when they elected Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, and they have chosen Barack Obama as the next occupant of the Oval Office. Which simply proves once more that the people's judgment is not always wise, but our system still beats any other governmental system in the world history - hands down.

This election was not about Barack Obama - the general public doesn't really know anything about him, because he doesn't have a long track record in politics. There just isn't much to know about him, in terms of his public accomplishments - there aren't very many - and none of significance.

This election was anti-Bush, pure and simple. Nobody with an "R" on their back could possibly have gotten elected President this time. It had nothing to do with how good or bad John McCain was, or how inexperienced Sarah Palin was - none of that mattered. All that counted was that the people were demanding change, having become thoroughly sick of George W. Bush. In retrospect we can say that the only real question from the beginning was: which Democrat is going to replace him?

We shall see what happens as the President-Elect begins making his plans for his Presidency. Mr. Obama has been backing away from his leftist rhetoric in the primaries, and moving toward the middle as he has progressed through the general election, and it remains to be seen whether that will hold true in the beginnings of his Presidency. About all we can do at this point is hope and pray.

What we will get with him depends on who he selects for his advisors and cabinet posts. The reason I say that is that he knows next to nothing about foreign policy (hence the selection of Senate Foreign Policy Committee's Joe Biden for Vice-President) and not much more about domestic policy.

Of one thing we can be sure, which is that increased Democrat strength in both the House and the Senate means that we will get some very unpleasant legislation passed and signed by President Obama. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and some Democratic Senators have long ago announced that they will resurrect the Fairness Doctrine, which is designed to silence conservative talk radio and television. That bill will require radio and TV stations to allot equal time to programs that present the opposite point of view from the popular conservative programs. Faced with having to air the liberal pundits who have already failed at producing programs people want to listen to (remember Air America?) many stations may simply get out of talk radio and conservative TV programs altogether. Which, of course, is precisely what the bill is designed to achieve.

We will also see the nomination of judges for Federal courts (including the Supreme Court) who are pro-abortion and pro-homosexual marriage, which will fasten these twin horrors ever more deeply on the nation.

And you can bet your dwindling bottom dollar that we will see a strong rise in taxes, especially to pay for the new Federal health care plan that will probably be the hallmark of the first year of Obama's Presidency. This in the midst of a deepening recession, which starting next year will begin to bite seriously into people's lifestyles.

There will be other attendant horrors, and some of them immediate. Obama will issue an Executive Order rescinding Bush's prohibition of Federal money to pay for abortions in the military. And there will be other similar measures, that won't be noticed by most people, because they won't get front page media coverage.

For me, the bottom line is that the Lord God has some time ago entered into judgment with the American people - and now has taken that judgment to a new level with this election. Until we come to repentance - both individually and corporately - I believe that things will continue to get worse. The mature Christian leaders (as opposed to the "whoop it up and just have faith" preachers on TV) have been saying this for years. I can say this with confidence because of what I know about God's plan for this nation, and His hand in our history. He is not through with us, and is now moving to purge us, so that we can return to Him.

If we respond in repentance, things will eventually change. But, not until.

Read your Bible for validation of that point!
